3D printed PROfarm 3D wall logo

For our own premises we designed and produced a three-dimensional PROfarm 3D logo with a total length of 1200 mm. The project shows that 3D printing can create striking bespoke company features too.

3D printing is not only for technical components, spare parts or small accessories. One example of what it can do is our own project: a three-dimensional PROfarm 3D company logo that we designed, printed and then installed directly on the wall of our workshop.

Key facts

  • Project: 3D printed PROfarm 3D company logo
  • Location: interior of the PROfarm 3D premises
  • Total length: 1200 mm
  • Height: approximately 260 mm
  • Projection from the wall: 50 mm
  • Construction: multi-part design, sections joined by sliding together

The brief and the design

This time we were our own customer. We wanted a striking logo that would represent our company right there in the premises and at the same time show visitors what can be made with 3D printing.

The aim was not to produce a flat sign. We therefore designed the logo as a three-dimensional feature with pronounced depth, so that the individual letters and graphic elements stand out from the wall.

The whole logo is 1200 mm long, approximately 260 mm high and projects about 50 mm from the wall.

Design and production

Given the final dimensions, the parts of the logo could not be printed as a single piece. We therefore split the elements into separately printable parts.

For the larger elements we also chose a construction divided into two parts. These were designed to fit together precisely once printed and form a single solid piece. That solution let us produce even the larger sections of the logo while keeping them accurate, and at the same time make efficient use of the printer's build plate.

We paid particular attention to positioning the individual parts accurately. To make assembly easier, we printed helper pieces that served as precise spacers and jigs between the individual blocks of the logo. Thanks to them, the parts could be aligned exactly during installation and the correct spacing maintained.

Once printed, we assembled the individual parts, joined them into the final sections and then fixed the whole logo to the wall with adhesive.

Choice of material and colours

For production we chose PLA, a material well suited to indoor use. It offers a wide range of colours and at the same time makes it possible to achieve a good surface finish and sharp detail.

We matched the colours to our corporate identity and used a combination of blue, grey and black.

In total we used approximately 2 kg of PLA.

Technical data

  • Material used: PLA
  • Printer: Bambu Lab H2S
  • Material consumption: approximately 2 kg
  • Total print time: approximately 45 hours
  • Total length of the logo: 1200 mm
  • Height of the logo: approximately 260 mm
  • Projection from the wall: 50 mm
  • Mounting: bonded with Mamut adhesive
  • Colours: blue, grey and black

Precise assembly of a large 3D feature

With a large three-dimensional logo, the assembly and installation matter just as much as the production itself. Over a length of 1200 mm, even a small inaccuracy in the placement of the individual parts would be clearly visible on the finished piece.

That is why we designed and printed our own helper pieces for the assembly, which set the exact distance between the individual parts of the logo. They let us align the elements easily and keep them evenly spaced along the whole length.

The result is a three-dimensional logo that reads as a single piece, even though it is made up of a larger number of separately printed parts.

Future uses

We carried out this project as our own company logo, but it also served as a practical demonstration of what 3D printing can do.

The same approach can be used to create a logo, a company name, lettering or another graphic motif to a customer's requirements. The dimensions, the colours and the construction of the individual parts can all be adapted to a particular space.

And because a larger feature is split into several printable parts, we are not limited by the build area of a single machine.

The result

The result is a striking three-dimensional PROfarm 3D logo that now forms the dominant feature on the wall of our premises.

The project also let us prove out the whole process, from preparing the individual parts through the 3D printing itself to the precise assembly and installation of a large three-dimensional feature.
